POINTS TO PONDER

Most Christians have heard Jesus said about us being the light of the world. Put another way, it means that believers are like a light in this dark world. As children we often sang the chorus, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.” To many Christians, the term “light” means that we are to be examples of good Christian living to a world of wrongdoers. In John’s Revelation 21:23, we get a clearer glimpse of what role our light plays. Speaking of the New Jerusalem it says, “The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” Put more specifically, God provides the energy and Jesus is the light bulb. The same goes for us. The light people see in us is not ours, we are simple chosen to be the instrument through which God’s illumination of truth beams. So the next time you talk about being a light, don’t forget, you have to be plugged into the source in order to really shine for Him. – Dr. Robert R Seyda
